Chaucer’s Pilgrims and St Augustine

Chaucer’s Pilgrims and St Augustine

This short programme starts at Southwark Cathedral and the 17th century, galleried George Inn before heading for Canterbury with visits to some very ancient Domesday churches and Rochester Cathedral on the way.  You will see where it is believed that St Augustine landed on the shores of England in AD 597 and experience Choral Evensong in Canterbury Cathedral.  The tour can be adjusted to become a pre or post cruise extension.  Other highlights include:

  • Visits to at least two 13th and 14th century churches
  • Choral Evensong in Rochester Cathedral
  • A tour deep into the famous White Cliffs under Dover Castle
  • St Augustine’s Abbey, formerly a Benedictine monastery dating from AD 598
  • A walking tour of the city of Canterbury
  • A special tour of Canterbury Cathedral finishing with Choral Evensong which will linger in the memory for a very long time
  • Leeds Castle, set on its own island and arguably the loveliest castle in the world
